History of the pogrom

On 6-8 April 1903 (19-21 April, according to the new style calendar), a pogrom took place in Chisinau (Kishinev), what is today the Moldovan capital, that would forever alter the course of Jewish history. At that time, Chisinau was home to 110,000 people, of whom 50,000 were Jewish, and was the capital of Bessarabia - a governorate of the Russian Empire. Read more..

During the commemoration events, between March 20 and April 6, the General Directorate of Education, Youth and Sport of the Chisinau Municipal Council will organize extracurricular educational classes with the generic “Pogrom of Jews in Chisinau – call for tolerance”.

The General Directorate of Economy, Trade and Tourism of the Municipality of Chisinau will place on the platform www.visit.chisinau.md the tourist route “Pogrom Road” and “Jewish Tourist Route”, which will include tourist attractions dedicated to the events of the Pogrom of 1903 and important historical sights and the culture of the Jewish people
